Well looky, looky! It’s Friday once again and I cannot tell you all just how happy I am that the weekend has arrived. I’m also excited to work on the Free Write Friday prompt from Kellie Ellmore’s blog. Today the free write gets us to take ending lines from a book or poem and write from that. I chose Kate Chopin’s The Awakening. Not my favorite book but one that I’ve read so many times that I can recall this line without much effort. The line is “There was the hum of bees, and the musky odor of pinks filled the air.”
I’m going to start off with the line and take it from there. Here we go:
There was the hum of bees and the musky odor of pinks filled the air. I looked around for you, slow to remember your absence deliberate. I was bleeding underneath my skin aching for you, for it, the beginning stretched out like some illusion. I could not master use of language for as badly as I wanted to call out, say to you goodnight, yes, and please my tongue, aligned with the roof of my mouth, was as thick as perfume.
