I love when a song makes me think about it all the time. And when I try hard to learn the lyrics. It’s all poetry to me. I’ve been fixated on Florence and the Machine for quite some time and it’s not just that the music is so guttural and passionate, but the lyrics are, for me, intense and purpose driven. I wonder if the songs ever started out as poems.
Below are a few lines from Only if For a Night by Florence and the Machine. To me it’s obviously poetry and once you hear the song it becomes a type of magical audiation. I can see what she is singing the way I see what I write and I really enjoy this song. Check out the lyrics. Read them out loud and hear the poetry of it. Beautiful, right!
In the grass was so green against my new clothes
And I did cartwheels in your honour
Dancing on tiptoes
My own secret ceremonials
Before the service began
In the graveyard doing handstands
And I heard your voice
As clear as day
And you told me I should concentrate
It was all so strange
And so surreal
That a ghost should be so practical
Only if for a night
