Goodnight, Moon

perfect wedge, champagne moon
hovering, floating just so
beyond the clouds

were you watching me before as i sipped hot tea
on the balcony and
gazed into your radiant sky?

plink, plink,
i imagine
the sound of your star
children
as they rock back and forth
blinking and playfully SOSing
each other

i hear the lovely
names you call them—
“Esme,
Dula,
Tartan, settle down”

opaque magic wafts down
dusting me in a sleepy
sheen

and for some reason
i smile and answer when you
call me by
some other name.
“Goodnight, Aurora.”

Goodnight, Moon.
